3 REASONS PERFORMING ARTS ARE IMPORTANT FOR SOCIETY

Performing Arts has been a part of human culture for a long time and throughout the years it has evolved immensely. It is an art, a way for people to show their creativity and to discover and express themselves. Performing Arts is an invaluable tool for self-expression, better studying and stress reduction.

And although we humans may not speak the same language, the language of Performing Arts is universal and is one we can all understand.

At RSM Stage Academy, we believe that Performing Arts is still to this day, very valuable and incredibly important in the current world of social media, digital technology and screens.

Here are 3 reasons why Performing Arts is important for society.

     1. Creativity

Most importantly, Performing Arts is all about being creative. It helps students learn about the world in a different way, through creative expression. It is a skill that can be taught and learned like any other. Once creativity is learned, we realize that we become a unique kind of problem-solver that deals in abstract and artistic concepts as well as technical and linear ones. Having people in society who can express themselves creatively is immensely important, without it the society will become dead inside. It has been proven that an important step in human development is creativity and that without creative people, society cannot move forward.

      2. Self-discovery and expression

Performing Arts such as theatre/acting, dance and singing, can teach a person how to effectively express themselves and can even be a great tool for communication for people with disabilities. Performing Arts provide children and adults the opportunity to build on their cognitive skills.

One of the more important aspects for students attending a Performing Arts school is to conquer their shyness and gradually become more confident students as they attend regular classes. Eventually, Performing Arts will teach students team-working skills, empathy and most importantly how to develop strong relationships.  It is a way of communicating different thoughts and feelings to the other people in society. It helps improve relationships as well as understand the world better.

Fundamentally Performing Arts are all significant for several reasons like getting constructive criticism, resolve problems improved, forming fresh remarks, discipline, and perseverance.

       3. History Education within Performing Arts

Even though many people may not know, Performing Arts teaches us about history and educates us in other ways. It gives us a chance to reintroduce past history to younger generations and teach them about issues such as slavery, apartheid, etc. this will give them an opportunity to express their emotions which otherwise would have evoked apathy at best.

Theatre also promotes education and literacy. The most important advantages of doing arts include enhancing life skills and academic performance. Studies have shown that students who participate in theatre do better in school and have better performance in verbal and mathematical topics. Another great advantage of attending a Performing Arts school is that students in the arts have a higher rate of attendance, and also report fewer incidents with negative behaviour.

Research has shown that students who engage in the Performing Arts at least three times a week are more likely to be given recognition for academic achievements.

At RSM Stage Academy, we believe that Performing Arts need to be nurtured and encouraged by all.
